Eagle’s Eye Overlook is one of three pull-offs on the 5.5-mile Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway. It gives you a broad view of Lake George and the Adirondack hills without a walk to the summit. If you want the mountain’s wider panorama, continue to the summit parking lot and its separate 0.2-mile trail.

Prospect Mountain drew visitors before the highway. In 1877, Dr. James Ferguson bought the mountain and built a summit hotel marketed as a sanitarium; it burned three years later and was rebuilt as Prospect Mountain House. An incline railway opened in 1895 and carried visitors to the top until 1903. Its track and cars later deteriorated, and metal from the railway went to the World War I effort. The Veterans Memorial Highway opened in 1969, dedicated to World War II veterans.
