This is a short stop beside the road, not the summit itself. The highway begins at U.S. Route 9 about half a mile south of Lake George Village; the drive from the entrance booth to summit parking takes about ten minutes before stops. The road is seasonal, so check access before planning around it. The 1.5-mile trail up Prospect Mountain starts in the village and climbs 1,630 feet; it's a separate, much longer way to the summit.
For a photo, include the village and steamboat docks below the wooded ridge, with open water in the foreground. That puts the shoreline and lake together in one frame.
