“Up ahead is Huletts Park, a county beach and picnic park on the east shore. I'd allow a few hours if you want to combine a swim with lunch and a game of volleyball.”

More about Narrow Island Group Campground

A boat-in campground across the islandsNarrow Island Group is a cluster of boat-access-only campsites on Lake George’s Mother Bunch…

Narrow Island Group is a cluster of boat-access-only campsites on Lake George’s Mother Bunch islands, from the group near Black Mountain toward Mallory Island off Silver Bay. There are 85 sites, spread across separate islands rather than gathered around one road loop. This is for an overnight where the boat is part of the plan, not a quick pull-off or a drive-in tent site.

Make the arrival part of the planReserve your campsite before you go; walk-ins aren’t permitted.

Reserve your campsite before you go; walk-ins aren’t permitted. You’ll need to reach a private marina to park and launch, then register at Narrow Island’s ranger station before continuing to your site with your gear. Budget for parking and launch fees. Access is by boat only, and Lake George can bring hard winds and fast storms, with depths changing from shoals to sudden drop-offs, so check conditions before crossing.

What each site includesEach site has a dock for one boat, a fireplace, a picnic table and a toilet facility.

Each site has a dock for one boat, a fireplace, a picnic table and a toilet facility. Most are forested and private, with boating, sailing, fishing, bird-watching and hiking among the ways to enjoy the islands. Dogs aren’t allowed on the islands, docks or aboard boats moored at docks. The sites operate seasonally; the listed window is mid-May through late September, so verify that year’s opening and closing dates when you book.

Lake George’s island campgrounds grew in the late 1930s and 1940s, when the state expanded facilities across the lake. The Civilian Conservation Corps carried out much of that work, including caretaker cabins and offices for some island groups. Narrow Island is part of this wider island-camping system, with its sites scattered through the Mother Bunch.
