“Up ahead is Huletts Park, a county beach and picnic park on the east shore. I'd allow a few hours if you want to combine a swim with lunch and a game of volleyball.”

More about Huletts Park

Huletts Park is a county-run swimming beach and picnic park on Lake George’s east shore at Huletts Landing. Come for a relaxed swim, a picnic and a broad view across the water; this is an easy shoreline stop rather than a hiking destination. General admission is free. The county lists the address as 6303 Sunset Bay Road. Swimming and lifeguard service are seasonal, and the guarded beach has a shorter daily window than the picnic area, so check the county’s current schedule before planning a swim.

The buoy lines mark the swimming area, with a sandy edge for settling in beside the lake. Across the water, wooded Adirondack ridges give the view its scale. For a photo, keep part of the shore or buoy line in the foreground, then frame the lake and ridges behind it; that shows both the setting and the beach you came to use.

Picnic areas and tables, a playground and swings, basketball, volleyball, horseshoes and tennis make this a good place to stay after a swim. A dock serves canoes, kayaks and other small hand-carried boats. The county lists restrooms, parking and water, but does not clarify whether the water is potable; bring drinking water if you need a confirmed source. Food service is not listed, so pack what you plan to eat. The pavilion, which has a barbecue pit, is available by reservation only.

Before the Hulett family name took hold, the bay was known as Bosom Bay, using an older word for a bay. A hotel opened there around 1870, and a guidebook a few years later described the sandy shore and view toward Lake George’s Narrows. Those accounts describe Huletts Landing’s resort past, not continuous operation at today’s county park. A larger hotel built around 1900 burned in 1915; a later replacement was taken down in 1959. The park sits within a settlement that drew summer visitors to this quiet side of the lake long before the county beach was a public recreation stop.
