Inspiration Point is a viewpoint reached by a trail on a ridge above Juniper Lake, known for its broad panorama of Lassen Volcanic's peaks and lakes. It is a worthwhile short hike if you want more than a roadside view: allow about 1.5 miles round trip and 420 feet of climbing. The path starts gently, then steepens near the top.

What opens up from the ridgeContinue about 200 yards along the ridge beyond the crest for the wider sweep.

Continue about 200 yards along the ridge beyond the crest for the wider sweep. Juniper Lake and Crystal Cliffs lie to the south; Lassen Peak, Brokeoff Peak and Chaos Crags rise to the west. Farther north, the view reaches Prospect Peak, Cinder Cone, Snag Lake and Mount Shasta. For a photo, include Snag Lake below Cinder Cone and Prospect Peak to show how the volcanic landscape spreads beyond the lake.

Getting to the trailThe trail begins near Juniper Lake's north shore.

The trail begins near Juniper Lake's north shore. Reaching it means driving the final six miles on rough dirt road; the park says that stretch is unsuitable for buses, motor homes and trailers. Check the park's current road and trail conditions before making the drive, since access to the lake and the trail's status can be updated separately.
