Domesday church with ANZAC graves and Brusher Mills' marker
Overview
St Nicholas' Church sits on Church Lane in Brockenhurst, inside the New Forest National Park. It is described by the parish as the oldest church in the New Forest, and by the park authority as a medieval church and the only church within the New Forest boundary mentioned in the Domesday survey of 1086. It is listed by Historic England at Grade II*.

Guide
Two things draw most of the attention. The first is the churchyard's wartime history, including ANZAC and Commonwealth war graves and the story of the First World War hospital village at Brockenhurst. The second is the grave of Brusher Mills, the New Forest snake catcher, whose marker is noted among the churchyard's features. Adjoining the church to the south-west stands the Great Yew Tree.
The interior is dim, which can make detail hard to pick out and photographs difficult. Because opening depends on parish activity, you may arrive to find the church closed and only be able to explore the churchyard and exterior. Anyone hoping for a long, structured visit should keep expectations modest, since the appeal here is quiet history rather than a large attraction.
