Trail guide
Hordle Cliffs is a 2-mile (3.2-km) accessible coastal out-and-back from Hordle Cliff (west) Amenity Car Park. The car park sits near the middle of the cliff-top path: take the short western arm until it turns to dirt, return to the car park, then follow the east arm toward Paddy’s Gap and the White House before retracing. The two-mile figure counts both return legs. Allow one to two hours with stops.
Most of the route is level, smooth asphalt, with no gates and benches or sheltered beach huts for breaks. The western spur is brief but changes to dirt; if you need firm surfacing throughout, turn back before that point and use the paved arm. Heading east, the path slopes gently down toward the White House (under 1:20). The Solent opens toward the Isle of Wight, while the short westward stretch faces Hengistbury Head. For a photo, look along the painted huts with the sea beside them.
Start at the long-stay car park on Cliff Road; charges apply. Toilets and a café or kiosk are at the car park, with takeaway drinks, bacon baps, chips and ice cream when weather allows. The White House is a nautical-themed seaside residence with a lighthouse turret and porthole windows, built by the Walker-Munro family, who also built Rhinefield House. Coastal wind can make this open, level walk feel chilly, so bring an extra layer.
