This is the park’s main visitor center and the best first stop before you roam the mountains, rainforest, or coast. It sits at the base of Hurricane Ridge Road in Port Angeles and combines orientation, permits, and a quick primer on the park’s ecosystems.

Wilderness & Trip Logistics

If you’re heading into the backcountry, this is the year-round stop for wilderness permits and bear canisters. Rangers can help fine-tune itineraries, explain quotas, and point you toward under-the-radar options when popular zones are booked.

Short Walks Right Out the Door

Two easy nature trails start at the center, making it a good leg-stretcher when you roll into town. Picnic tables outside make it an easy spot to regroup before you head deeper into the park.

Wildlife

You might see birds, squirrels, or the occasional deer on the grounds. For the marquee wildlife—elk, bears, mountain goats—you’ll want to venture farther into the park.

• Parking includes a main lot and an overflow lot down the hill, but both can be busy in summer
