Set inside Bahia Honda State Park at mile marker 37 on the Overseas Highway, Loggerhead Beach is the park’s ocean‑facing stretch. It’s quieter than Sandspur, with gentle rollers and a mostly pebbly shoreline—great for a laid‑back swim and sun, as long as you pack water shoes. If you’re road‑tripping between Marathon and Key West, this is a classic pull-off that delivers quick beach time without fuss.

What To Do

• Swim and sun on the ocean side; expect occasional seagrass onshore.
• Snorkel from shore if you like, but the park’s boat trips to Looe Key are the real showstopper for reef color and fish. Wetsuits help if temps dip below ~78°F.
• Rent kayaks inside the park and explore calm water while watching for dolphins, manatees and seabirds.
• Walk the short Old Bahia Honda Bridge trail for panoramic photos of the beaches, dunes and mangroves.
• Fish only in designated areas with a Florida saltwater license; no spearfishing or collecting tropical fish/shells.

Loggerhead faces the ocean and can gather more seagrass. For calmer water, head to nearby Calusa. For softer sand and clearer near‑shore snorkeling, many visitors favor Sandspur.

The state park is open 8:00 AM to dusk year‑round. Typical entry runs about $8 per vehicle (pedestrians/cyclists around $2.50). Alcohol isn’t permitted. Arrive early for parking near Loggerhead, especially on weekends and holidays.

Best Time to Visit

Late spring and early fall balance thinner crowds with warm water. March–June is especially pleasant for snorkeling and paddling. Midday is busiest; mornings bring easier parking and milder conditions.
