Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen (Original)

This is the original Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen, a compact seafood and homestyle restaurant right on the Overseas Highway. It’s a good sit-down break on the Keys drive, especially if you want breakfast later in the day: the original serves breakfast all day. Use 99336 Overseas Highway for this location; the later Mrs. Mac’s II is a separate restaurant farther up the road.

Key lime pie is the standout. The restaurant won a local Best Key Lime Pie award in 2023 and 2024, and visitors often single it out; some describe it served frozen. Current menu pages can mix the two locations, so the clearest original-specific food detail is its all-day breakfast.

Jeff MacFarland opened the restaurant in 1976 and named it for his mother, whose recipes influenced the menu. Cook Angie Wittke joined in 1987, became an owner within months and opened the second location in 2011. The original’s small dining room is lined with license plates and signed dollar bills, a bit of old Keys character that makes this more than a generic highway meal.
