A bit of history
Services in Queenstown began with early settler William Gilbert Rees in 1861, followed by the first church building in 1863. The current church was consecrated in 1932 and faced with locally sourced greywacke stone from the lake edge. Parishioners also erected a memorial lych-gate. The original wooden church was dismantled and re‑erected in Omakau, where it still serves as St Mary the Virgin.
