Crescent Beach Overlook

Crescent Beach Overlook is a roadside viewpoint on a bluff above the Pacific, at the end of Enderts Beach Road about three miles south of Crescent City. A short paved path leads to a wooden deck with benches. It is an easy place to pause for the coast without taking a hike; the deck is above the beach, while reaching Enderts Beach below means taking a separate Coastal Trail walk.

Look north across the curve of Crescent Beach toward Crescent City's beaches and harbor, then scan the open water for jagged sea stacks. On a clear day the view carries for miles; fog can hide the horizon. For photos, fit the crescent of sand and offshore rocks into one frame. Sunset is a particularly rewarding time to be here.

Two interpretive signs introduce the area's history and geology. The coast here is part of the traditional lands and waters of the Tolowa people. Fish, whales, and other marine mammals have long been part of Tolowa life, and that connection to the ocean continues today. To the north, Crescent City's working harbor adds a view of the industries and livelihoods tied to this stretch of the Pacific.

The pull-in beside the deck has room for two vehicles. There is more parking and an accessible vault toilet a few hundred feet farther along at the road end. Three picnic tables make this a good place to unpack a snack and stay awhile. For the beach itself, continue to the road-end area and take the separate Coastal Trail descent; it is a longer outing than the short viewpoint visit.
