More about Mill Creek Campground

A wooded base campMill Creek Campground is a 145-site overnight campground in the wooded valley of Mill Creek,…

Mill Creek Campground is a 145-site overnight campground in the wooded valley of Mill Creek, inside Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park. It’s a useful base for camping among maples, ferns and redwoods, with creek access and trails nearby. Come to sleep in the forest and explore the northern redwoods; this is a campground, not a stop built around one big landmark. Twenty-two sites are tent-only.

Getting in and choosing datesThe campground is about 7 miles south of Crescent City, then 2 miles east of Highway 101.

The campground is about 7 miles south of Crescent City, then 2 miles east of Highway 101. That last stretch has narrow lanes and tight curves; the park limits RVs to 28 feet and trailers to 24 feet. The campground operates seasonally, so check the reservation calendar for your dates and book through California State Parks.

What’s on siteSites have a picnic table, fire ring and food locker.

Sites have a picnic table, fire ring and food locker. Seasonal facilities include potable water, flush toilets and coin-operated hot showers; there’s also a dump station and summer ranger programming. There’s no camp store, ice sales or food service, so pick up what you need before turning off the highway.

A forest that was loggedThis is second-growth redwood forest, not one of the park’s old-growth groves.

This is second-growth redwood forest, not one of the park’s old-growth groves. Maples and ferns give the creek valley a leafy feel, while the southern part of the campground is especially shaded and has large cut stumps among the trees. Mill Creek opened as a campground in 1967. Nearby trails make it easy to get out for a walk without driving back to the highway.
