Javelina Picnic Area is a developed picnic stop on Cactus Forest Loop Drive in Saguaro's East (Rincon Mountain) District, and the closest picnic area to the East District entrance. Covered ramadas, picnic tables, charcoal grills and a parking area make it a useful place to stop for a meal.
The Tanque Verde Ridge Trail starts at the south side of the parking area. It climbs from the lot to a rocky outcrop about 0.25 mile up, with another west-facing viewpoint around 0.75 mile from the start. The first is a short way to get a view over Tucson; going farther means more climbing on the trail.
There is no food service listed at the picnic area. The accessible pit toilets are reached by a paved path, and the picnic area has at least one wheelchair-accessible table. The toilets have no water, and no drinking-water tap is listed here, so bring drinking water for your stop.
