CCC Campground is a developed campground on Little Missouri National Grassland, just across the river from Theodore Roosevelt National Park’s North Unit. It’s a practical overnight base for park visits and a trailhead in its own right, with open Badlands views. It sits outside the park, so plan on driving between camp and the North Unit.

Take the trail from campThe Long X Trail starts here and runs about 5.

The Long X Trail starts here and runs about 5.8 miles one way to the Maah Daah Hey Trail; linking them makes an approximately 11-mile loop through Badlands terrain. That’s a full hike or ride, not a quick campground stroll. Long X follows an 1880s cattle-driving route through the northern Badlands. Theodore Roosevelt ran cattle in the region, but he isn’t known to have driven his herds on this stretch.

The campground has vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, grills and parking at the sites; some sites have electrical hookups. The equestrian loop has corrals and hitchrails, and cyclists will find wash and repair stations near the trailheads. Trash is pack-in, pack-out, and there’s no dump station. Water availability is unclear, so confirm before relying on it. Watford City is the nearest stop for restaurants and other supplies.
