Oneloa Beach

Oneloa Beach, also called Ironwoods Beach, is a roughly quarter-mile sandy beach on Maui's Kapalua coast. Its broad shoreline and quieter feel make it a good place to slow down or take a beach walk; it also works as a stop along the Kapalua Coastal Trail. Choose another beach if a dependable swim is the priority.

A shallow reef is exposed near the eastern access, with rocky points at the ends and a sandier stretch farther along. Winter swell can break fast and build dangerous rip currents. Swim or snorkel only when the water is calm; when surf is up, stay on shore. Afternoon wind can make the beach less comfortable.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail follows the dunes and links D.T. Fleming Beach with Kapalua Bay, with Oneloa around the middle. For a shorter visit, park at the small access lot off Ironwood Lane and continue down a path or stairs to the sand. There are no restrooms or food vendors reported at the beach, so bring water and a snack.

Oneloa is often translated as “long sand,” apt for this open stretch. At sunrise, frame the curve of the water with the darker shoreline in the foreground; it shows the shape of the bay beneath the warm sky.
