Honolua Bay Scenic Lookout is a roadside viewpoint on Honoapiʻilani Highway, about 10 miles north of Lahaina. It looks down into a blue cove edged by green, wooded cliffs. Honolua is the only bay in this immediate area visible from the highway, so this is an easy way to take in the curve of the coast without leaving the road for a beach walk. For a photo, keep some of the green headland and foreground vegetation around the water so the scene reads as a sheltered bay.
Honolua is translated as “two harbors.” The bay also served Honolua Ranch as a landing for supplies and shipments, giving this coast a working history beyond its present-day scenery.
The view looks onto the 45-acre Honolua-Mokulēʻia Marine Life Conservation District, established in 1978. Its protections apply to marine life in the water, so leave the bay's wildlife and other natural features undisturbed.
