“You're approaching Stockyard, where the walk to Big Drift begins. The return is about four and a half kilometres and two hours: a firm track through bush, then a steep climb in loose sand.”

Yanakie Cemetery is a small historic burial ground in a wooded clearing near Stockyard and the old Yanakie Station homestead. Five people are buried here, giving the Prom’s early settlement story an unusually personal scale. Their deaths were largely linked to the remote, harsh conditions faced by early settlers. This is a brief heritage detour, not a major attraction to build a day around.

A signposted track runs from Stockyard to the cemetery. The easy Grade 2 walk is about 600 m and 20 minutes return, so plan a short out-and-back rather than expecting to pull up beside the graves. The burial ground sits among trees, with a commemorative display for some context.

The appeal is the small scale: a handful of burials from the Prom’s early days, reached on foot from Stockyard. Take a moment to read the display and look around the wooded clearing. You will not need long here; it works best as a thoughtful history stop while exploring the northern end of the park.
