Louise & Richard Guy Hut is an 18-person Alpine Club of Canada hut near the base of Mont des Poilus, in Yoho's southwest Wapta. Open in winter only, it serves the Bow–Yoho Traverse and ski touring toward Yoho Peak, Mont des Poilus and Mount Collie. Plan for an overnight backcountry trip, not a quick stop; the listed route is 20 km with 820 m of elevation gain.

The hut sits in avalanche terrain, and reaching it may involve glacier travel. Route notes warn about open crevasses, cornices and wind-loaded slopes, so this is for parties comfortable making alpine travel decisions, not a maintained hike. Reserve through the hut operator and check current access information before setting out. A national park pass is required in Yoho.

The hut has mattresses, a propane stove and heat, electric lighting, snowmelt water and an outhouse. There's no oven or outlet for charging personal devices. Solar panels and wind turbines charge batteries for the electrical systems, while propane runs the stove and heating. Check the current guest instructions so you know what food and equipment to bring.

The people behind the nameDedicated in 2015, the hut honors longtime Alpine Club of Canada members Louise and Richard Guy.

Dedicated in 2015, the hut honors longtime Alpine Club of Canada members Louise and Richard Guy. Richard made a significant contribution toward its construction. After Louise died at 92, he climbed Ha Ling Peak at 96 to take her ashes to its summit.
