Blueberry Hill is a small historic parking loop beside a rocky cove on Schoodic Peninsula, an easy roadside stop for the islands offshore and a look at the shore. Face the water for Schoodic Island; Little Moose Island is to your right. The loop is about a mile beyond Schoodic Point on the one-way Schoodic Loop Road.

Make the stop workThe parking loop is small, so use the first open space.

The parking loop is small, so use the first open space. Stop at Schoodic Point for the flush toilets before continuing; Blueberry Hill is a mile farther along the one-way stretch.

Explore the low-tide shoreThe rocky shore is right beside the parking area.

The rocky shore is right beside the parking area. At low tide, small pools form among the cobbles. Seaweed can make the rocks slick, and the footing is uneven, so take your time near the water.

Keep going for a trailAlder Trail starts at the parking area and heads toward Schoodic Head Trail.

Alder Trail starts at the parking area and heads toward Schoodic Head Trail. Across the road, a trail climbs The Anvil, a 180-foot promontory. That’s the longer option if a quick shoreline stop leaves you wanting a walk.

People came here to picnic and pick berries before the parking area was developed, sometime between 1935 and 1940. The historic loop is simple: pavement around a grassy center, with coping stones along the east edge and rock outcrops and low shrubs to the west.

For a sunrise photo, keep some of the dark rocky shore in the foreground and leave the open water and horizon across the rest of the frame. At low tide, the pools and cobbles add detail without requiring a long walk from the parking area.
