Set on a hill above the south end of Jordan Pond, Jordan Pond House is Acadia’s classic sit-down spot—famous for popovers and tea on the lawn with the Bubbles framed across the water. It’s the park’s only full-service restaurant, which makes it both convenient and wildly popular.
Why it’s special
The ritual here is simple: popovers, jam, and something warm to drink while you soak up the view. The setting does a lot of the heavy lifting—broad lawn, sparkling pond, and those two rounded peaks begging for photos. If you want a celebratory lunch without leaving the Loop Road, this is the place.

The Jordan Pond Path loops the shoreline, and nearby routes head toward the Bubble peaks and along carriage roads. Do a lap before or after you eat to earn those popovers.
History snapshot
Guests have been coming here for afternoon tea on the lawn since the 1890s. The original building burned in 1979; the current house opened in 1982 and keeps the tradition alive.
Wildlife
Keep an eye on the water for loons and ducks, and listen for songbirds in the surrounding woods. You’re more likely to see them along the shoreline trail than from your table.
Logistics and pitfalls
- Parking can be a headache. There are multiple lots and they fill fast, especially midday in summer and fall.
- Expect waits at lunch and teatime; the popovers are popular for a reason. Food beyond the popovers can feel pricey and gets mixed reviews.
- Cell service is spotty in this part of the park.
