What to expect

This is the short loop right at Jordan Pond—about 0.8 miles total, easy, and usually done in roughly 15–20 minutes. It winds through quiet woods near the shoreline, giving you that classic Acadia mix of forest and pond without committing to the full pond circuit. Expect company; this area is very popular.

Start and navigation

Park at the North Jordan Pond Parking Area. From the boat ramp access road, trail access is on either side; turning left leads toward the Jordan Pond House area. Look for the signed nature loop here—don’t confuse it with the longer 3.2–3.3 mile Jordan Pond Path/Shore Trail that circles the entire pond.

Scenery and wildlife

You’ll get peeks of the pond and a mellow forest feel the whole way. Birders work this loop for an easy win—keep an eye out for loons and mergansers on the water and the chance of peregrine falcons on nearby cliffs. Beavers are active around Jordan Pond as well.

Practical notes

There’s often an informative, keyed brochure available at the north parking area for a self-guided walk. The Jordan Pond House sits nearby if you want food or restrooms. Jordan Pond is a public water supply—no swimming or wading, and keep pets out of the water.

Is it worth it?

Yes—if you want a quick, low-effort leg-stretcher with a woods-and-water vibe near all the Jordan Pond amenities. If you’re after the full shoreline experience and big, continuous views toward The Bubbles, do the longer Jordan Pond Path/Shore Trail instead.

Best time to hike

May through October is prime. Go early or late in the day if you want a quieter loop and softer light; midday is busiest.

Pros

  • Self-guided nature brochure keyed to stops at the north lot
  • Good birding close to the car and amenities

Cons

  • Easy to accidentally end up on the much longer shoreline loop
  • Parking at Jordan Pond fills early and often

Parking

Use the North Jordan Pond Parking Area; trail access is at the top of the boat ramp access road. Turning left heads toward the Jordan Pond House.

Caution

This area is very popular; expect crowds. Do not swim or wade—Jordan Pond is a public water supply—and keep pets out of the water. Confirm you’re on the short Nature Trail, not the 3.2–3.3 mile shoreline loop.
