The routeThis out-and-back starts at the Aurora Creek–Marvel Pass parking, follows the Roadway Trail…

This out-and-back starts at the Aurora Creek–Marvel Pass parking, follows the Roadway Trail connector, then continues beside Aurora Creek toward the saddle area of Marvel Pass. The mapped corridor is about 5.22 miles each way; count 10.43 miles round trip with the return, including the connector. Allow about eight hours and roughly 2,350 feet of climbing. The route ends at the pass and leaves out onward trails into Banff and Assiniboine.

Creek to passThe gradual creek approach leads toward alpine meadows.

The gradual creek approach leads toward alpine meadows. Aurora Lake lies just below the high point of Marvel Pass, and the upper cascade is a useful landmark; the trail becomes indistinct above it. Expect wayfinding to take more attention in the upper section. Midsummer wildflowers and mid-to-late September larches are reported seasonal highlights. From the pass, other trails continue into the surrounding parks, but they are outside this saved route.

Remote accessFrom Radium Hot Springs, follow Highway 93 northwest for 19.

From Radium Hot Springs, follow Highway 93 northwest for 19.9 km, turn right onto Settler’s Road for 12.4 km, then left onto Cross River Forest Service Road for 20.1 km. Keep left on Mitchell River Forest Service Road for another 5.5 km, then turn right and continue 4.3 km to the trailhead. Forest roads and the bridge warning make access worth checking before the drive. Potable water and toilets may be unavailable, cell service may be limited, and maintenance is limited; carry what you need and plan to navigate offline.
