Guide
Blue Mountains Heritage Centre is the park’s main visitor and orientation centre, at the end of Govetts Leap Road in Blackheath. It’s a smart first stop if you’re planning a long or remote walk: staff give route advice, you can lodge a trip-intention form, and personal locator beacons are available to borrow free. The centre also has guides for remote walks such as Acacia Flat.
The permanent Outside In exhibition introduces local Aboriginal culture, plants and animals. A virtual-reality experience shows the hidden valley of the Wollemi pines. Rotating exhibitions by local artists change what’s on view over time, and you can browse maps, walking guides, books, clothing, souvenirs and Australian-made goods.
Fairfax Heritage walking track starts on the centre grounds and leads to a picnic area and scenic views of nearby Govetts Leap lookout. It’s an easy way to add a walk outdoors to the visit; the lookout is the bigger payoff if you want to see the sandstone cliffs and Grose Valley.
