Lakie's Head

Lakie's Head is a roadside coastal lookout and interpretive stop on the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Pink-brown rocks meet the Atlantic here, with forested headlands across the water. It's worth pulling in as you drive the coast; this is a short pause, not a hike or a stand-alone outing.

Look south toward Ingonish Island and Middle Head, with Cape Smokey farther away. The open water and broken rocky edge are the draw. For a photo, include some of the pink-brown rocks in the foreground so the frame shows both the rugged shore and the water beyond.

The panels connect the view to life along this shore: depending on the season, they explain lobster fishing or how to identify whales, and another describes coastal seabirds. Lobster hauling and whales are things to watch for when conditions and season line up, not a promise of a sighting.

This is a roadside pull-off on the Cabot Trail. A ramp leads to the viewing platform and panels, and Parks Canada describes the Cabot Trail viewpoints as paved and wheelchair accessible. The exposed rocks beyond the platform are uneven if you choose to explore them. A park pass is required to drive the section of the Cabot Trail that passes through the park.
