La Bloc Beach is a pebbly salt-water beach on the Gulf coast of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, with historic wharf remains and panels about the Acadian fishing community. It makes a good short Cabot Trail stop if you want a little shore walking and local history; come expecting rounded stones and waves, not a sandy beach.

Parks Canada says more than thirty French families once lived along this rugged coast, made their living from the sea and operated a cannery. The interpretive panels tell that story on the same shore where the community worked.

Remains of a historic wharf still reach into the Gulf, recalling Acadians who lived near the beach. Nearby Presqu’île and Pillar Rock stand out along the coastal view, and whales may be seen offshore; bring binoculars if you want to scan the water. For a photo, use the stones and surf in the foreground with the layered headland across the water. Sunset is a particularly good time to linger.

There’s a picnic area and pit privies, so this can work as a lunch break as well as a shoreline walk. A park pass is required to use national park facilities, including beaches. There are no surf guards: Parks Canada warns that undertows and rip currents can be dangerous, especially in rough water or after storms. Treat swimming as an unsupervised ocean dip, not a guarded beach swim.
