About Cavern Point

Cavern Point is the signature bluff‑top overlook above Scorpion Anchorage on Santa Cruz Island. Perched on sheer coastal cliffs, it dishes up grandstand views of the Pacific and the island’s rugged north coast. The point sits above some of the island’s largest sea caves—while you can’t see the cave from the top, you’ll feel the drama of the coastline from this perch.

Best time to visit

Hit it early or late for softer light, cooler temps, and fewer people. It can feel busiest right after ferries land and before they depart. Winter light pairs nicely with the gray whale migration; late spring and summer evenings are lovely for photography.

Getting There & The Hike

Most people reach Cavern Point via the Cavern Point Loop/Bluffs Trail from Scorpion Anchorage through the campground. The climb out of Scorpion is short but steep and largely shadeless. Pro tip: hike the loop clockwise from the campground (near site #22) to soften the climb. From Cavern Point, you can continue west along the North Bluff Trail about 2 miles to Potato Harbor for more coastline eye‑candy.
