Scorpion Anchorage is the park’s busiest landing on Santa Cruz Island—and for good reason. It’s the all-in-one hub where you step off the ferry straight into hikes, sea-cave kayaking, snorkeling in thriving kelp forests, and a historic ranch-turned-visitor center. Expect an easy logistics base with potable water and the island’s main campground just up-canyon.

Spring and summer see the most visitors; book boats, campsites, and guided tours well in advance. If you prefer a quieter scene, target the shoulder seasons. Clear days make the coastal vistas pop, and calmer conditions are friendliest for kayaking and snorkeling.

Amenities and Vibe

You’ll find vault-style restrooms near the landing and in the campground, potable water near the beach and at camp, picnic tables, a visitor center at the ranch, and multiple trailheads right from the landing. There are no food vendors or stores—bring everything you need. It’s popular (especially spring and summer), so don’t expect solitude at peak times.
