About Bluff Trail (Santa Cruz Island)
Bluff Trail is the coastal walk from Scorpion Anchorage on Santa Cruz Island to the Potato Harbor Overlook. The route combines the public access through Scorpion Valley with the Cavern Point/North Bluff corridor, then follows the bluffs west to the overlook for broad Pacific views and a dramatic look into Potato Harbor.

Start at Scorpion Beach at Scorpion Anchorage and follow the signed island trail and road network to the Cavern Point/North Bluff junction. Continue west on North Bluff Trail to Potato Harbor Overlook, then return by the same route. The National Park Service lists Potato Harbor as 5 miles round trip from Scorpion Beach; the verified mapped outbound corridor is about 2.54 miles. The optional Cavern Point Loop can be added as a separate variant, but it is not connected into this stored out-and-back line.

North Bluff provides repeated ocean views, seasonal wildflowers, seabirds, and opportunities to spot island foxes, dolphins, or migrating whales. Potato Harbor is the destination viewpoint: the turquoise cove is surrounded by steep pale cliffs and has no hiking access to the beach.

There is no on-island parking. Arrive by concession boat at Scorpion Anchorage and begin near Scorpion Beach. Stay well back from unstable cliff edges, carry all water and sun protection, pack out all trash, and keep food secured from wildlife. Pets are not allowed on the island, and Potato Harbor is for viewing from above only.
