Guide
Bluestone Bay is a small boulder beach on Freycinet’s eastern coast, reached from the Cape Tourville road area. Go for its rounded stone shoreline, not a broad sandy beach or a simple roadside pull-in. Vehicle access is via a 4WD track; walking in from the Cape Tourville area is another option, but the walk-in distance is not established well enough to plan by exact mileage.
Expect large, rounded stones and uneven footing at the water’s edge. After rough seas, kelp can cover wet rocks and make them slippery. There is no food service at the bay. White Water Wall’s eco-toilet is at the separate camp area along the access track, not down on the beach.
Use the rounded stones in the foreground and let the shoreline lead toward the wooded point, with open water beyond. Dawn blue hour and moonrise have both been photographed here, and sunrise can light the far side of the cove; those conditions are never guaranteed. Stay on stable ground when framing the shore, since wet kelp can make the rocks slick.
