Wineglass Bay Lookout

Start at Wineglass Bay Walking Tracks Car Park. A constructed track climbs about 1.3 km each way through coastal woodland and past granite boulders to a saddle, then continues a short way to the lookout platforms. It’s steep, with plenty of steps, but seats along the way make it easier to take the climb at your own pace. The lookout is about 2.6 km return; carrying on downhill from the platforms to the beach makes this a longer walk.

Midday is the busiest stretch of the day, so morning or later afternoon is a better bet for a quieter visit. Low cloud can hide the beach from the ridge; if the view is socked in, the climb may not pay off the way you hoped.

The platforms give you the bay from more than one angle. For a photo, keep the sweep of the white beach and blue water together in a wide frame, with the surrounding ridge to show the scale of the coastline.

Visitors often report wallabies around the walking-track car park. Whales and dolphins are occasional sightings offshore, so enjoy them if they appear, but don’t count on them as the main event.

A car park and picnic area serve the walking-track start, and toilets are reported near the trailhead. A Tasmanian parks pass is required to enter Freycinet National Park. This isn’t a step-free viewpoint: the route climbs steadily and includes many steps.
