This is the postcard view of Wineglass Bay—earned with a short, steep climb and paid back in full at the top. The lookout circuit is well built and one‑way around the viewing area, which helps the photo flow when it’s busy.

The track climbs the rocky hillside toward the saddle near Mount Amos on a well‑constructed path and steps. A lower platform gives an early peek across Coles Bay; continue to the main platform for the classic Wineglass Bay vista.
What you’ll see
From the main lookout you get the sweeping curve of white sand and blue water framed by granite peaks—exactly the shot you came for. Most visitors linger about 25 minutes at the top before looping back.
Facilities & logistics
There are no facilities at the lookout or along the track. Use the toilets and water taps at the Walking Tracks car park before you start; the visitor centre also offers a refill station. If you continue beyond the lookout down to the beach, there’s a composting toilet at Wineglass Bay Beach. A Tasmania Parks pass is required to access sites in the park (entry fees apply).
Best time to visit
Open 24 hours, but the experience isn’t equal all day. Sunrise and late afternoon light flatter the bay and are typically quieter; late morning to early afternoon is the busiest window, especially on weekends and holidays. On hot or windy days, expect exposure on the upper sections.
Extend your hike
Feeling energetic? From the lookout you can descend to the beach for a picnic, then climb back up to the saddle to return—budget extra time and effort. With more time in the area, Sleepy Bay makes a short add‑on for rugged coastal views.
