Overview

About Mirranatwa Gap Lookout

Why stop

  • Layered mountain ridges make a memorable scenic stop

Heads up

  • Narrow access and uneven side tracks limit the easy visit
Mirranatwa Gap Lookout is a simple roadside pause on Victoria Valley Road, with a broad view across wooded valley country and the layered ridges of the southern Grampians. It is also commonly listed as Grampians Valley Lookout. The appeal is the combination of an easy detour and a genuinely open mountain view, not a long walk or a big collection of facilities.

Plan your stop

Before you go

Best time to go

Low morning or late-afternoon light gives the ridges more shape and brings out the warm tones in the bush. Clear days offer the strongest layers, while a little haze can make the valley feel deeper. The road is narrow and rural, and the pull-in is modest, so take it slowly and do not treat this as a comfortable stop for a large caravan. There is no reason to linger for hours: allow 15 to 30 minutes for the main view, longer if you follow the side track and wait for better light.

Dogs are not permitted in the national park, except within vehicles on sealed roads and in sealed parking areas. Bring water, sun protection, and a wind layer.

What to expectPull into the gravel parking area and take the short staircase to the bench and first viewing…

Pull into the gravel parking area and take the short staircase to the bench and first viewing point. A rough track continues around the left for a few more angles, then climbs briefly to a higher viewpoint on the hillside. Uneven ground, a narrow uphill section, and sudden drops make the extra viewpoints less casual than the roadside stop. Wear shoes with grip and keep children close near the edge.
