Gros Ventre Campground is Grand Teton’s largest developed campground: seven loops set in sagebrush and grassland beneath cottonwoods and blue spruce, on the park’s southeast side. It’s a practical choice if you’re visiting Jackson or focusing on the southern end of the park; many central and northern stops take a longer drive from here.
There are 279 individual sites, four group sites and 39 with electric hookups. Sites vary in shade, space and vehicle fit, so check the dimensions and loop rules before booking. Generators are allowed in loops A, B, C and East Corridor. You can reserve operating-season sites up to six months ahead; book as soon as your dates open if this is your base.
Sites have a picnic table, a fire ring with metal grate and a food locker. Seasonal potable-water spigots and flush toilets are available, but there are no showers or camp store. Ice and firewood are sold seasonally at the office.
Campsites aren’t along the riverbank, but the Gros Ventre River is within walking distance. Its cottonwood and willow banks are a good place to pause and look for moose, mule deer, bison and birds. Fishing is another reason to walk down: the river supports cutthroat trout, brook trout and whitefish.
