Moose Landing Boat Launch is the park’s main Snake River take-out and hand-launch area near Moose. Many authorized float-trip operators meet their passengers here after the river trip, then shuttle them to the put-in. If you’ve booked a float, use your operator’s meeting instructions; this is a working boat launch, not a set-and-stay overlook.

Two ramps, a demanding riverThere are two ramps, parking for boat trailers, river-safety panels and an accessible restroom.

There are two ramps, parking for boat trailers, river-safety panels and an accessible restroom. The 10-mile reach from Deadman’s Bar to Moose Landing is rated advanced: the Snake braids into shifting channels, and logjams are a real hazard. All watercraft need a park boating permit, so check current boating requirements before launching. There’s no food service listed at the landing; plan meals elsewhere.

The winding, braided river left no safe place to ford for about 20 miles north or south of this area. Homesteader Bill Menor established a homestead and ferry just north of the landing. The ferry opened the west side of the valley to more visitors and helped set in motion discussions about creating the park.

River lifeThe Snake carries snowmelt west across the valley toward the Pacific.

The Snake carries snowmelt west across the valley toward the Pacific. Moose and beavers use this river corridor, though neither is a sure sighting at the ramp.
