“Up ahead is the Chapel of the Transfiguration, a small log church built in nineteen twenty-five for people from nearby dude ranches. If it's open for visitors, step inside: the altar window frames Grand Teton.”

Hiking Menor's Ferry Trail

The loopMenor’s Ferry Trail is a 0.

Menor’s Ferry Trail is a 0.44-mile loop from the large lot into the historic district, around the homestead and Snake River ferry replica, then back along the same short access path. Allow about 30–45 minutes to walk and look around. The National Park Service describes the named trail as less than half a mile; its separate 0.3-mile figure refers to a network of paths around the buildings, while this full loop includes the shared approach.

From the far side of the lot, follow the paved path into the site and stay on the marked historic pathways as they circle the buildings and river ferry. The route is nearly level, with pavement and compacted gravel or dirt, but some sections are narrow and do not meet ADA standards. The General Store and Maud Noble cabin have no ramps. Interior opening hours were not verified, so plan for an outdoor walk. Pets are not allowed on park trails or pathways; service animals are exempt.

Bill Menor built a ferry that became an important Snake River crossing for valley travelers in the early 1890s. Its cable kept the platform in the channel; the operator angled the pontoons so the current pushed the ferry across. The displayed ferry and cableworks are replicas. A steel bridge made the crossing obsolete in 1927.

Maud Noble and the park’s beginningsMaud Noble bought the property in 1918.

Maud Noble bought the property in 1918. On July 26, 1923, she hosted a meeting with Yellowstone superintendent Horace Albright and local residents that helped start the plan for a national park around the Tetons. Her cabin holds park-history exhibits when it is open, but the walk remains worthwhile from the paths and buildings outside.
