Overview

Sitting on a natural bluff above Willow Flats, Jackson Lake Lodge is the park’s modernist icon—one of just two National Historic Landmarks here. The 60‑foot wall of lobby windows is the showstopper, perfectly framing Jackson Lake and the jagged Teton skyline.

What You’ll See

From the terrace or lobby you’re looking straight across Willow Flats toward Jackson Lake and the Tetons. It’s a postcard view without leaving a cushy armchair. Scan the flats at dawn or dusk and you’ve got a real chance of spotting moose, plus elk, bison, deer, and waterfowl moving through the meadows.

Why It’s Special

Completed in 1955 (the Rockefeller era), this was the first modern lodge in any U.S. national park. Concrete textures, bold lines, and big glass replaced the old rustic-log vibe—and it works. The building itself is part of the experience, not just a place to sleep.
