More about The Mural Room

Make it a meal stopThe Mural Room is the seasonal dining room at Jackson Lake Lodge in Moran, Wyoming.

The Mural Room is the seasonal dining room at Jackson Lake Lodge in Moran, Wyoming. It pairs a sit-down meal with the Teton Range through the windows and ten large murals across the walls. I’d choose it when you want the setting to be part of the park day; this is a full meal stop, not a quick refuel. The room and view are its surest draw, since the food and value can be uneven.

What comes from the kitchenThe restaurant describes its menu as Rocky Mountain cooking built around regional ingredients.

The restaurant describes its menu as Rocky Mountain cooking built around regional ingredients. Sample menus have included a breakfast buffet with made-to-order omelets, salads, sandwiches and wraps at lunch, and local beef, wild game and fish at dinner. The on-site bakery makes bread and pastries. Menus change with the season, so treat those as the style of cooking rather than guaranteed dishes. Dinner reservations are recommended.

Look out the windowsThe Teton Range is visible from every table, framed by tall windows across an open foreground.

The Teton Range is visible from every table, framed by tall windows across an open foreground. That panorama gives the meal a sense of place even if you are not heading out on a walk afterward. Come for a slow meal and a long look at the mountains as much as for a particular dish.

The ten Rendezvous Mural panels stretch nearly 28 feet across two walls and were installed in 1959. They depict the 1837 Green River Rendezvous, where fur trappers gathered to trade beaver pelts for supplies. Artist Carl Roters based the panels on sketches by Alfred Jacob Miller, who documented a 2,400-mile round trip to the gathering and returned with about 200 watercolors.
