Jenny Lake Lodge is a seasonal resort of individual and duplex log cabins tucked among trees near Jenny Lake, at the foot of the Teton Range. Come for a cabin stay or a planned meal, not a lakeshore stop: Jenny Lake is hidden from the lodge. It is an expensive stay, and guests disagree on value, so choose it for the wooded cabin setting and full-service dining rather than as a quick scenic stop.
The dining room serves breakfast, lunch and a nightly rotating five-course prix fixe dinner. Lunch includes burgers, wraps, soups and salads. Meals are available to people who are not staying at the lodge; dinner requires an advance reservation, and reservations are recommended for lunch. Reviews praise the setting and food, though some guests report uneven service and feel the cost is high for the experience.
The individual and duplex cabins sit back among trees behind the small main lodge. They have private bathrooms, porches, coffee makers, mini refrigerators and Wi-Fi, but no television or electric air conditioning. That last detail can matter during a warm spell. The park lists the property as wheelchair accessible, and the operator offers an accessible room, though the specific route and room details are limited; check with the lodge about a particular access need.
Tony Grace started a homestead here with two rental cabins in 1922, catering to eastern visitors who wanted ranch life with the comforts of home. The Snake River Land Company bought the property in 1930. By 1939 it accommodated 65 guests, with private baths and hot and cold running water. Jenny Lake Lodge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
The Jenny in Jenny Lake's name was Jenny Leigh, a Shoshone woman and the wife of Richard “Beaver Dick” Leigh, a British expatriate and fur trapper. The couple assisted the 1872 Hayden Expedition: he guided it, and she handled camp logistics. The expedition named Jenny and Leigh lakes for them. The lodge takes its name from the nearby lake, even though you cannot see the water from here.
