Signal Mountain Lodge

This is a seasonal lakeshore lodge and services complex on Jackson Lake, with cabins, country rooms, dining, coffee and a gift store. It makes sense as an overnight base or a planned meal stop, especially if you want several useful services gathered in one place. If a Teton view from your room matters, choose a Lakefront Retreat: those are the only units advertised with views of both Jackson Lake and the range.

The accommodations range from rustic log cabins to country rooms and Lakefront Retreats. One-room cabins are grouped in three- or four-unit buildings; two-room cabins sleep four to six, and most have a bathroom reached through a bedroom. Lakefront Retreats sit in two-story quadplexes. Compare the specific room layout before booking if how the rooms connect matters to your group.

Trapper Grill serves breakfast, specialty sandwiches, burgers and nachos. Peaks is the bistro-style lunch and dinner option; Deadman’s Bar has drinks and snacks; Timbers Coffee & Cones does made-to-order coffee, ice cream, bakery items and grab-and-go food. Needles Gift Store carries clothing, accessories, Native American jewelry and gifts. The lodge’s services are seasonal, so check current operating dates before planning around a particular outlet.

In 1891, Robert Ray Hamilton disappeared while hunting in Jackson Hole. Searchers agreed to light a signal fire on the mountain’s summit if they found him. Seven days later, Hamilton’s drowned body was found in the Snake River below Jackson Lake Dam, and his hunting partner John D. Sargent was suspected. That search gave Signal Mountain its name.
