Getting there

The viewpoint sits along Bunyeroo Road, an unsealed scenic route that begins about four kilometres north of the Wilpena junction on the Hawker–Blinman Road. Estimates put the drive from Wilpena at roughly 20–25 kilometres, including a slow gravel stretch. Advice differs on whether an ordinary two-wheel-drive car is suitable, so check current park road information before setting out and drive to the conditions, especially after rain. The small gravel pull-off has limited room to park.

More about Razorback Lookout

The view from the roadsideRazorback Lookout is a roadside viewpoint on Bunyeroo Road, looking across Bunyeroo Valley…

Razorback Lookout is a roadside viewpoint on Bunyeroo Road, looking across Bunyeroo Valley toward the Heysen Range. From the small gravel pull-off, the ridges sit close and the outlook opens across a broad stretch of rugged country. Several ridgelines stack behind one another, fading toward the Heysen Range. Its defining experience is the open valley and ridge view, available without a long walk. Keep it separate from Bunyeroo Valley Lookout, a distinct stop about a kilometre away on the same road.

A 20–40 minute stop gives you time to take in the view, wander along the ridge and get a few photos. The road winding through the ochre hills makes a strong line in a photo; keep some of the near ridge in the foreground so the frame shows the shape of the land as well as the distant ranges. Early light can put warm colour on the hills from the front. At sunset, you may be looking into the light, so it is not automatically the better time for a photo.
