“Yanyanna is a short walk off Bunyeroo Road, and it's easy to mistake it for just a hikers' shelter. In the nineteenth century, its stockyards were a central point of the Aroona sheep run on Adnyamathanha Country.”

Yanyanna is a historic hut and stockyard site beside the Bunyeroo Valley road, visited before the drive into Bunyeroo Gorge. It marked the central point of the Aroona pastoral run. Among its remains are the ruins of a pug-and-pine shepherd’s hut from the 1850s and a standing iron shelter dating to 1937—a modest stop that brings the area’s pastoral history down to a human scale.

The site is also a simple overnight option on the Heysen Trail. The hut and camping facilities sit about 300 metres from the car park and road, so allow for a short walk rather than expecting a drive-up campsite. Most visitors will get the most from a pause to look around the stockyards and old structures; hikers can use the basic shelter and multipurpose camping platform.

A fireplace and rainwater tank are listed, but reports disagree about the tank’s level and water quality, and its potability is not confirmed. Carry a reliable drinking supply. No toilet is listed at the site, and accessibility details are not confirmed. This is a heritage stop with basic camp facilities, not a serviced campground.
