A quick history
Jasper began as a rail town (originally Fitzhugh). The current station went up in 1925 for the newly formed Canadian National Railways, replacing earlier depots and quickly becoming a focal point of the townsite. It was designed as a first‑class passenger facility tailored to its national‑park setting, which is rare in North America.
Wildlife notes
Because it’s in the townsite, wildlife isn’t the main draw—but elk and deer do wander through on occasion, especially early or late in the day. Give them plenty of space and admire from a distance.
Practicalities
There are public restrooms and adjacent parking. Food is limited to a simple café offering (seasonal), with plenty of restaurants a short walk away on Connaught Drive. Trains can run late due to freight priority—build in buffer time.
