Jasper Discovery Trail

Jasper Discovery Trail (Trail 11) is an 8.3 km/5.2 mi loop around the Jasper townsite, combining forested singletrack, paved paths, gravel, and short town-side sections. The route has broad views toward the Athabasca Valley and surrounding peaks, along with benches and interpretive panels about Jasper’s history, geology, and ecology.

The loop is divided into three sections and can be joined at several points. For a clearly identifiable start, begin near the Jasper train station on Connaught Drive and follow the small bear-symbol trail signs. Wayfinding is generally straightforward, but some junctions are easy to miss, so carry the Parks Canada map or an offline copy.

Expect gentle rolling terrain with about 120 m/394 ft of elevation gain and loss. The distance and modest climbing suit a family outing, casual hike, walk, or run, although the full loop is not completely accessible because of short climbs and uneven stretches. The townsite setting means you will see homes, lodging, and other developed edges as well as forest and mountain views.

This is a shared-use trail: bicycles are permitted, and dogs should remain on leash. Watch for other users and traffic where the route uses town streets or crossings. Check Parks Canada’s trail conditions before setting out, and stay on designated trails.
