Parking

Start at Eagle Gorge carpark on Eagle Gorge Access Road. Standard park entry fees apply. The 160 m accessible path reaches the lookout only; the beach trail continues beyond it. The nearest listed accessible toilet is at Natural Bridge, about 9 km away.

Safety

The beach descent is short but steep and uneven, with many steps and some rock-hopping. Waves and wave-washed rock make the shore exposed; do not assume the water is safe for swimming.

“Eagle Gorge is coming up, with a short, paved path to a lookout over the red cliffs and ocean. It's an easy coastal stop without taking on the beach descent.”

Hiking Eagle Gorge Beach Trail

Eagle Gorge Beach Trail is a short out-and-back from Eagle Gorge carpark to the small beach below the gorge. The published distance is 1 km return, with 30–45 minutes allowed. You first reach the cliff-top lookout on the short access path, then continue down steep sandstone switchbacks. The lookout makes a good quick stop; the beach is the reason to take on the rougher descent.

The easy part, then the stepsThe first 160 m from the carpark leads to the lookout on an accessible path.

The first 160 m from the carpark leads to the lookout on an accessible path. Turn back there for the easier, shorter visit. The beach route carries on over sandstone terraces, with a steep, uneven descent, many steps and some rock-hopping. It is rated Class 3 and described as moderate, but the drop to the beach comes quickly; take your time on the way down and save some care for the climb back up.

From the lookout, frame the pale beach with the layered sandstone in the foreground: it shows how the cove sits below the cliffs. The lookout and beach are distinct stops on the same walk, so don’t let the short approach to the viewpoint make the full route sound accessible.

Red cliffs and the coveAt the bottom, the path reaches a small beach tucked beneath the red coastal cliffs.

At the bottom, the path reaches a small beach tucked beneath the red coastal cliffs. The layered rock is Tumblagooda sandstone, and the terraces make the descent as much a part of the outing as the shore itself. Waves break around the gorge mouth and rocky ledges; treat this as an exposed coast walk, not a promise of safe swimming.
