Hiking Dundag to Torc Path

A short loop to TorcDundag to Torc Path is a 3.

Dundag to Torc Path is a 3.2 km loop from Dundag Point to the Torc Waterfall area and back on a different path. Allow about 1–1½ hours. It’s an easy way to reach the falls without taking on Torc Mountain, though the last approach rises more steeply than the lakeside start. One published return figure is 2.5 km; the full alternate-return line mapped here measures about 3.15 km, so plan for the longer loop if you take that return.

Along the lake and through the fieldsFrom Dundag Point, cross the road opposite the Old Boathouse Trail access and continue south.

From Dundag Point, cross the road opposite the Old Boathouse Trail access and continue south. The route follows the wooded edge of Muckross Lake, then opens out across Torc fields. The lake views are the main reward on the way down, and red deer are often seen feeding in the open fields. The main path is mostly level; the climb comes near the waterfall.

Choose your returnThe loop mapped here uses the alternate return, which can be rough and muddy.

The loop mapped here uses the alternate return, which can be rough and muddy. If you’d rather avoid that footing, retrace the outward path; the shorter published distance may refer to a different return choice. The two lines don’t give you the same route experience, so follow the option you mean to take.

The Owengarriff River flows from the Devil’s Punchbowl and drops about 21 m down Torc Mountain at the waterfall. The Dundag path finishes near the falls. The stepped climb above the main viewing area and the separate red waterfall circuit add more walking and aren’t part of this loop.
