Adirondack Extreme is a forest aerial ropes course and zipline attraction west of Bolton Landing, with platforms and suspended obstacles set high among the trees. Make time for it if you want an active half-day; skip it if you are after a quick scenic stop. Six adult courses get progressively harder, and you can stop after any course. The separate Low Rider is a lower zipline-only option.

Staff fit you with a harness and show you how to use it, then you move through the courses at your own pace. The first four adult courses together have 75 obstacles and 20 ziplines. Plan several hours if you want to try multiple levels; training and breaks add to the visit.

Built around the treesThe course opened in 2007.

The course opened in 2007. Its platforms and cables take you through the woods, and one long zipline passes over Alder Brook. Low Rider keeps its ziplines lower, about 10 to 30 feet above the forest floor, with nine walking bridges of its own.

Bring the right groupChildren's courses start at age 6.

Children's courses start at age 6. Adult courses generally start at 9 and require a 5-foot-9 reach; the two highest courses have stricter age and reach limits, and 9- to 12-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult on course. Check the current rules before booking. Secure, closed-toe shoes are required; slip-ons are not allowed. Spectators can follow woodland paths alongside the courses. Picnic tables and food delivery make it practical to bring lunch and take a break. Reserve ahead because operating dates and arrival times vary through the season.
