Trail guide
Ben Venue from Ledard Farm is a 7.25-mile (11.5 km) out-and-back to the mountain’s twin summits. Start at the B829 layby by Loch Ard; allow 5–6 hours and about 812 m (2,664 ft) of ascent. The route follows Ledard Burn through deciduous woods, then climbs boggy, eroded ground to a rough ridge with views over Loch Katrine, Ben Lomond and the surrounding Munros. It’s a hard hill day with a less direct southern approach than the usual start from Loch Achray.
From the roadside layby opposite the Ledard Farm track, follow the farm track toward the buildings. Before the farmhouse, turn left at the signed Hill Access path, cross a bridge and continue beside the burn. A waterfall appears soon after. The lower glen is muddy, with sections of boardwalk; bracken can crowd the path in summer. At the fork, take the uphill path on the left. The faint line straight ahead beside the burn is not the climb.
Past the native trees, the path crosses open ground and the burn above a small waterfall. The climb to the first bealach is boggy and eroded. Beyond it, the route contours a steep slope, drops briefly to a second bealach with a large cairn, then climbs the knobbly west ridge. This is slow, rough walking: the surface changes from soft ground to exposed rock well before the summit.
At the saddle, a rocky path links the two tops. The southeast summit has a shattered trig point and views over Lochs Achray and Venachar toward the Lowlands. The higher northwest summit, 729 m, has a small cairn and a wide look over Loch Katrine toward the Highland mountains. Take a moment to include the ridge in a Loch Katrine photo; it gives the view more scale than a plain horizon shot. The path is uneven at both tops, and you return to Ledard Farm by the same southern route.
Park in the layby opposite the signed Ledard Farm track on the B829; its capacity is not specified. The nearest listed toilets, shops and food are at Trossachs Pier on Loch Katrine, a separate stop. Dogs are allowed under Scotland’s access code when kept under proper control; keep them close to livestock and avoid fields with young animals.
