Trossachs Pier and Loch Katrine“You're approaching Trossachs Pier on Loch Katrine, where a quick look at the water can become a half-day out. The steamship Sir Walter Scott has carried passengers here since 1900.”

Trail guide
The Brenachoile Trail is a 4.5-mile (7.1 km) out-and-back from Trossachs Pier to Brenachoile Point and back. Allow about two and a half hours. It is a low-level way to walk beside Loch Katrine without climbing a hill, with oak-lined shore, story panels and a grassy viewpoint toward Ben Venue. Most of the route is smooth tarmac, but the gentle-to-moderate rises make it more than a flat stroll.
From the pier car park, follow the broad, smooth tarmac shore road. The water stays close through patches of oak, with clearer views across the loch where the trees open. The road is quiet but shared with cyclists and a low volume of traffic. At the point, turn around and retrace the route; this is not a circuit.
Book-style information panels along the way belong to the Art and Literature Trail. They explain how the Loch Katrine landscape inspired writers and artists, including The Lady of the Lake, and helped turn the Trossachs into a Victorian visitor destination.
Brenachoile Point is a small grassy headland with a view toward Ben Venue. The final approach leaves the tarmac for a brief uneven grassy path and a short, fairly steep slope. Both the gate and the opening are 1.1 metres wide, and this surface change may make the viewpoint unsuitable for some mobility aids.
For a photo, keep one of the pale stone panels low in the frame and place Ben Venue beyond it across the water. It shows both the route’s interpretation features and the view that makes this the destination.
Use the charged Loch Katrine car park at Trossachs Pier (FK17 8HZ), the signed route start. The café, shop, toilets and bike hire are at the pier, not along the walk. Dogs may accompany you under Scottish access rules; keep them under close control, and on a short lead or close at heel during the usual April–July ground-nesting-bird season.
