Little Pools in the Canopy“On a forest walk, look up for leafy clumps sitting on branches. Some are bromeliads, plants that use the tree for support without taking food from it. In tank bromeliads, the leaves form a funnel that catches rain.”

Trail guide
Sendero Puerto Escondido is a 0.42-mile out-and-back from the Playa Gemelas junction to a coastal lookout above Puerto Escondido Bay, reached by a forest path and many stairs. That total includes the return; the mapped line follows the spur once. It’s a worthwhile extra for a closer look into the bay, but expect steps rather than a level stroll. Allow about 30 minutes for the walk and a pause at the view.
The route descends on a concrete path and wooden stairs to a viewing platform. Turn around there and climb back up the same flights. The walk is short, but the stair-heavy return is the effort; it isn’t a beach descent or a step-free route.
From the lookout, a wooded rocky islet sits in the turquoise water, with forested hills and dark shoreline rocks around it. That bay view is the point of the spur. You reach the Puerto Escondido overlook, not the beach below.
The trail starts where the Playa Gemelas route meets the Puerto Escondido spur, inside Manuel Antonio National Park. There’s no separate road-side trailhead or parking for this short branch; enter the park and walk to the junction. Ordinary pets aren’t allowed in the park. Its access rules make an exception for guide or assistance animals used by visitors with disabilities.
