Far View Lodge

Far View Lodge is Mesa Verde National Park’s only overnight lodging, a Southwestern-style cluster of 13 buildings with 150 rooms, about 15 miles beyond the entrance. It’s a practical base if you want to start closer to the main mesa areas instead of making the drive in from outside the park. The lodge operates seasonally, so check its dates before planning a stay.

Rooms are sold as Kiva and Kiva Deluxe View, and each has a private balcony. Deluxe View is the category meant for the more open panorama; sightlines still depend on the unit, so choose it if a balcony view is part of the point. The rooms are the more basic part of the stay: upkeep and noise can be inconsistent.

The Metate Room serves contemporary food inspired by regional ingredients. There’s also the Far View Lounge and a gift shop. Dining is seasonal, and dinner reservations are recommended; walk-ins depend on availability. The food and service are uneven, so convenience is the surest reason to eat on site.

The lodge sits on a high shoulder in a dark-sky park, with long views across mesa and canyon country. On a clear night, a balcony can be a good place to look for stars. Nearby lights can interfere, and not every room has the same open horizon.
